Carmelized Bananas

This is the easiest recipe I’ve ever made- one ingredient is all you need!  To make the perfect Caramelized Bananas for your morning oatmeal, pancakes, or waffles, make sure to use a ripe banana.  The secret to Caramelized Bananas is to cook them over medium heat.  You don’t want your pan to be too hot (you don’t want the banana to burn on one side) or too low (this would give you a mushy banana).  A ripe banana, medium heat, and a just a few minutes of patience, and you’ve got the perfect sweet addition to breakfast!

Ingredients

What (your ingredients):

1 ripe banana (yes, that’s it!)

Directions

How (your directions):

Heat a sauté pan over medium heat.

Slice the ripe banana in half widthwise, then in half lengthwise to create 4 slices.

Place banana slices cut side down into the sauté pan.

Heat for 3-4 minutes until caramelized and golden brown on the bottom.

Serve with oatmeal and a generous spoonful of peanut butter or serve with pancakes or waffles!

Why (the science):  Bananas are a plant-based form of sugar with potassium and fiber! The naturally occurring sugars caramelize without the need for adding excess calories from maple syrup, sugar, or honey.
