Grapefruit Brulee

An elegant addition to breakfast or brunch, or as a light dessert, this Grapefruit Brûlée could not be easier or quicker to make! Sweet and tangy, Grapefruit Brûlée comes together in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

What (your ingredients):

1 tablespoon plant-based butter

1 tablespoon coconut sugar

3 dashes cinnamon

1 grapefruit

Directions

How (your directions):

Preheat oven to 500°F.

In a small bowl, melt the plant-based butter.

Add the coconut sugar and cinnamon to the melted butter and stir to combine.

Slice the grapefruit in half.  Cut off a small piece of the rind from the bottom of each grapefruit half so that each half has a flat, stable bottom.

Using a paring knife, cut around the circumference of the grapefruit, between the flesh and the rind. Cut the segment membranes away from each segment.  This allows for the bites of grapefruit to easily be eaten with a spoon.

Divide the sugar butter mixture evenly over the two grapefruit halves.

Broil for 3-5 minutes.

Enjoy immediately!

Why (the science):  Grapefruit is high in the antioxidant lycopene, which has been shown to be beneficial in reducing the risk of prostate cancer.
